Maroon5 wins Grammy Number Three!

If it were up to Robert Valentine, music critic extraordinaire, they would have walked away with album of the year for "It Won't be Be Soon Before Long," which was the number one downloaded album on I-Tunes for crying out loud! Maybe the boys should show a little more cleavage! Grief! Way to go James Valentine. Your fans have no idea how hard you guys work 24/7/365! That paper route back in Nebraska taught you how to work, right? We are so proud of you, Adam, Jesse, Mickey and Matt! You are the best darn band in the world!

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Valentine:

I enjoy your blogs so much, you have no idea how much they mean to me as a person without total direction. I don't read them because of James . . . he's the reason I found this but not the reason I read and enjoy. Regarding your recent blog about the boys winning their 3rd Grammy, I don't know about the other 4 members, but I do know how hard James works. I've been told that he has the best work ethic in the band and he's the one who's the most dedicated to music and his craft.

I know this because I'm a former photographer for James' friend Jared Scharff (I spoke with James about Jared in NYC this past June) and I know Ryan Dusick quite well. Despite his separation from the band, Ryan has always spoken about James with the utmost respect - as a musician and as a human being who always 'had his back' during band arguments and difficult times. When I had the chance to speak with James I found him to be amazingly genuine plus I was able to geek out with him with guitar chat.

James is one of my guitar gods. I owe my work ethic to him (regarding my own guitar playing) and I learned about gear and technique from reading his interviews and watching him play. He's also one of my favorite artists to photograph (I sent several photos of James to Mr. V. a few months ago, photos I shot in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom in June and MSG in October). As serious as James is about his music, he's equally sincere yet silly and goofy - a strange cocktail but clearly it works for him. You have so much to be proud of with all five of your children - quite a blessing.

So if you think we don't know how much work and effort goes into these tours, albums, appearances, etc., you're wrong. Some of us are very aware. If it was easy, we'd all be doing it AND winning Grammys!

(P.S.: I would appreciate it if you didn't print any portion of this comment in you blog comments for personal reasons. Thanks for taking the time to read this. God Bless.)

P.P.S.: Here are 2 links to photos. The first is my favorite, I took this at MSG. The 2nd is a blend of one of your photos of James as a child and one of mine also from MSG to show, except for getting taller and hairier, James hasn't really changed all that much!
